How Norchem is Helping Laundries Get Hygienically Clean Status

The term hygienic, or hygienically clean, has become somewhat of a buzz word. People are paying even more attention to what is clean and what is not in today’s world, and everyone’s definition on what ‘clean’ means can vary. One thing that is surely defined is the Textile Rental Services Association [TRSA] Hygienically Clean Standard.

Hygienically Clean is an established threshold that guides the reduction of pathogens on textile products to levels that pose no threat of human illness. Hygienically Clean Healthcare certification acknowledges laundries’ effectiveness in protecting healthcare operations through testing and inspections that scrutinize quality control procedures in textile services operations related to the handling of textiles containing blood and other potentially infectious materials.

As a partner to many types of operators, including healthcare, who have achieved this top hygienic status, we understand how important it is to earn AND maintain this level of certification.

Just as TRSA and the Hygienically Clean criteria is always looking for ways to improve, the Norchem team is always pushing the envelope by thinking ahead for our customers:

  • How can we produce an even higher level of clean, quality goods?
  • How can we make the process more efficient?
  • How can we get more life out of a single garment or item?
  • How can we continue to add more value to our clients?
  • How can we innovate to improve the industry overall?

We asked our Director of Customer Care, with 22+ years of experience in servicing healthcare laundries, for insight into the process of acquiring the TRSA Hygienically Clean status and maintaining it.

  1. Check wash equipment regularly to make sure there are no water or steam leaks in the wash zones

  2. Check water levels and proper operation of drains to prevent any residual bacteria from carrying over to the finished bath cycle

  3. Invest in a spot testing meter - a powerful tool for implementing and managing your hygiene monitoring program

  4. Make sure you are catching the sampled items completely dry and seal for shipment upon removal from the production stream

  5. Ship your Hygienically Clean sample on a Monday or Tuesday to ensure immediate testing, and avoid Fridays (they might sit over the weekend)

To date, we are proud to say that our commercial laundry operators who seek Hygienically Clean Certification, have passed. This stems from our commitment to efficient chemical formulas and our determination to always test new ways to thoroughly clean anything that passes through the wash aisle.

“It’s very important to say that we are hygienically clean certified. With our partnership with Norchem, we can guarantee our garments are cleaned to a specific standard and when clients are confident in our service, that’s when real relationships are built.”  - Luis Portillo, CITY Laundering Co
