Norchem Joins 2025 Safer Chemistry Challenge Program
March 6, 2013
To remain competitive in the global marketplace, a growing number of companies are focused on achieving high standards of environmental performance through sustainable business practices. Along with using resources more efficiently and generating less waste, these leading companies are also seeking greener, safer alternatives for products they use and produce in their manufacturing processes.
By taking a proactive approach to managing their environmental responsibilities, companies are finding that eliminating the use of toxic compounds and substituting safer alternatives is not only good for the environment, but it will also lower waste disposal costs, improve compliance with regulations, increase workplace safety and create new market opportunities. The end result is a cleaner environment, enhanced competitive advantage and improved corporate image.
NPPR’s 2025 Safer Chemistry Challenge Program (SCCP) will recognize and reward facilities that reduce the use of hazardous and toxic chemicals of concern to the environment and human health through source reduction and pollution prevention measures, including:
• Selecting and using safer alternatives (benign or low toxicity materials or those that degrade into innocuous substances)
• Using cleaner processes; avoiding use and generation of toxic chemicals
• Using green chemistry tools and designs
The program is designed to help facilities partner with state and local technical assistance programs in identifying ways to reduce waste and emissions, and move toward safer alternative chemicals. Accomplishments from complimentary voluntary chemical reduction programs can be included if appropriate.
